about tay
Tay Evener, born in Sydney in 2004, grew up between arias and vinyl: her mother was an opera singer, her father collected records from the seventies. At fourteen she first took the stage with a school band and recorded her first songs in secret on her phone in the rehearsal room. Today she splits her time between Sydney and Los Angeles, sings, plays guitar and piano – and hides a small quote from an aria in every song.
“I’m not shy. I’m saving my words for songs.”
“static bloom” is about an offer that sounds too good: a major label wants to sign Tay. Ten songs in three acts – from quietly watching at the window, through the pull of the big stage, to the decision to say no and stay independent.
i observation
Being seen without wanting to be seen.
ii temptation
Studios, parties, a showcase that doesn’t feel like her stage.
iii resolve
The refusal, the indie deal, a look ahead.
